Buntun Bridge serves as the gateway to Tuguegarao City. The road infrastructure measures 1,369m (4,491ft) which is considered as the longest river bridge in the Philippines. In 1959, then President Carlos Garcia released P200,000 to start the construction of the bridge through the initiative of then 2nd District Congressman Benjamin Ligot. Its original design has 14 Japanese steel spans. The frequent floods have widened the river channel and caused the change of plan of the bridge to 14,240-feet Japanese steel through truss spans, one 50-feet I-beam approach on the Solana side. The ground-breaking ceremony on December 11, 1960 was attended by President Garcia. When President Ferdinand Marcos became the President, the construction of Buntun Bridge went into full swing on May 1968. President Marcos ordered then Highways Secretary Antonio Raquiza to assign the bureau’s construction team led by Engineer Rogelio Talastas to finish the construction of Buntun Bridge. By May 10 of the following year, the bridge was practically completed. First Lady Imelda Marcos opened the bridge to vehicular traffic on June 1, 1969.
